Allied Health Sciences
Allied Health Sciences

Allied Health Sciences is a 2-year "College Tech Prep" program at Lorain County JVS that gives students a solid head start on exciting health and medical careers. Because the program integrates rigorous academic preparation with hands-on technical instruction, students will be well prepared to continue their education at Lorain County Community College (LCCC) or another 2 or 4 year college or university of their choice.

Allied Health Science students complete college preparatory academics at their home school and attend the JVS for their technical course work. Juniors attend JVS classes in the morning and seniors in the afternoon. Classes meet five days per week for 150-minute blocks, making regular attendance vital to student success.

The program is an option to all students in the Lorain County JVS District. To be considered, a GPA of at least 2.75 is highly recommended. Students should have also completed Algebra I (grade "C" or higher) and Biology (grade "B" or higher); hold an excellent attendance record; and have passed all sections of the Ohio Graduation test prior to program application. Lastly, students must produce verification that their immunization status is up-to-date, including MMR, Tetanus and Hepatitis vaccination series.

Students may earn up to 19 college credits through an articulated credit agreement between the JVS and LCCC. These credits may be used at LCCC toward an Allied Health degree or diploma program (depending on the program selected) or may transfer to another college or university (depending on that educational institution's credit policies).
