Career Exploration
Career Exploration students may spend up to four grading periods rotating through
our vocation-technical labs in nine-week sessions to learn more about the career
opportunities available to them. Students in the Career Exploration program may also be placed in a structured
lab setting to help them concentrate upon placement in our vocational-technical labs. After completion of
the Career Exploration programs, students will focus on a career choice that will enable them
to apply to a two-year JVS training program.
The Career Exploration program is designed for students who would benefit from an alternative type of
high school experience or who may be deficient in credits.
Program Highlights
- Working knowledge of hand tools
- Working knowledge of power equipment
- Working knowledge of computers
- Lab atmosphere concentrates on both individual and team accomplishments
- Provides at-risk students with a chance to work in a "hands - on" environment
- Familiarizes the students with safety procedures in all lab situations
- Explores a variety of JVS programs
- Involvement in VICA activities
This program is for students who:
- Are 15 years of age at the beginning of the school year
- Have 3-7 high school credits earned
To be considered for this program, students must have:
- Home school guidance counselor recommendation
- A JVS application on file
Students may earn up to seven credits a year:
- Three credits for lab and related
- Four credits for academic classes
Upon completion of the Career Exploration Program students can:
- Return to their high school to finish high school
- Sign up for a two year JVS vocational technical program
