Scholarships
James A. Berthold Board Scholarship
- The scholarship(s) shall be awarded each year to a member of the Lorain County JVS graduating class.
- This is a one-year, nonrenewable scholarship.
- If there are no applicants for this scholarship, or the committee deems no qualified candidates can be found, the money will remain in the Scholarship Fund.
- Scholarship money will be paid to the student upon proof of the recipient’s enrollment and a receipt for expenses. If the student does not enroll within one year of graduation, the scholarship will be forfeited.
- Each applicant will submit the following in a single packet to Mrs. Watring
in the Technology Center Area before the last Friday in April:
- Application form
- Transcript of grades (Advance notice is needed by High Schools)
OR
a signed request for the release of transcripts to the Scholarship committee.
- Letter of acceptance from the adult education program or a post-secondary institution.
- Each applicant will also request three letters of recommendation. At least one of the letters MUST be from his or her LCJVS career-technical instructor. The remaining letters of recommendation may be from home schools, employers, LCJVS academic instructors etc. The letters of recommendation should be placed in Mrs. Watring’s mailbox.
- Each applicant will also be required to participate in an interview that is conducted by members of the Scholarship Team. An interview evaluation form and sample questions are attached.
- The applicants will be evaluated by the following criterion:
- Application form 20 points
- Transcript and acceptance letter 5 points
- Letters of reference 25 points
- Interview 50 points
