
April 27, 2012 -- Six Students Advancing to National Competition in Orlando
Six Lorain County JVS students from the Culinary Arts Program will be heading to Orlando, Florida in July for the National Family Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Competition & Leadership Conference. (Their names are underlined below.) In addition, the JVS swept the state Culinary Team event by ranking first, second and third in this statewide competition.
AMHERST
Gabrielle Richards was awarded a gold medal in Pastry Arts, Lindsay Roseberry was awarded a gold medal for Job Application & Interview and will advance to nationals
BROOKSIDE
Mark Dean received a silver medal for Garde Manger, Janie Duke received a gold medal for the Culinary Team and will be advancing to nationals, Martinic Ford was awarded a silver medal in Garde Manger, Nichole Gombos received a bronze medal in the Garde Manger event
CLEARVIEW
Jordan Cusumano received a gold medal for the Culinary Team and will be advancing to nationals, Nathan O'Conner was awarded a bronze medal in National Programs in Action, Amanda Thomas received a gold medal/3rd place for the Culinary Team
ELYRIA
Morgan Adams was awarded a gold medal/2nd place for the Culinary Team, Darien Henderson was awarded a gold medal/2nd place for the Culinary Team, Olivia Knapp received a silver medal in Pastry Arts, LaShondrea Lenor received a gold medal/3rd place for the Culinary Team, Autumn Rutherford received a gold medal for the Culinary Team and will be advancing to nationals
FIRELANDS
Marissa Poling was awarded a gold medal/3rd place in Pastry Arts
KEYSTONE
Eli Benko received a gold medal/2nd place on the Culinary Team, Iain Szuch received a gold medal/1st place in Pastry Arts
MIDVIEW
Zach Wilson received a gold medal/3rd place for the Culinary Team
NORTH RIDGEVILLE
Ashley Barnes received a gold medal for the Culinary Team and will advance to nationals, Marisa Goodman received a gold medal in Food Innovations and will advance to nationals
OBERLIN
Austin Halbisen was awarded a gold medal/2nd place on the Culinary Team
FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical organization for students in family and consumer sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life -- planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making and interpersonal communication -- necessary in the home and workplace.
