Plumbing Student Wins Gold at State SkillsUSA Competition Brian Doehr May 5, 2008 -- Lorain County JVS student, Bryan Doehr, of Wellington was awarded a gold medal at the recent SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference held in Columbus. Plumbing contestants were required to “rough-in” hot and cold water lines to a lavatory and water closet for a half-bathroom. They also installed sanitary drainage waste and vent lines. Professional plumbers and pipefitters judged the contestants on accuracy, workmanship, the use of tools and supplies, and safety practices. Doehr will advance and compete in the national leg of the SkillsUSA Competition which will be held in Kansas City, Missouri in June. “We were very proud of Bryan," stated JVS Plumbing and Pipefitting Instructor Frank Abbey. “The JVS has had 7 plumbers compete in the National SkillsUSA Competition in the last 8 years,” continued Abbey. “We are looking forward to Bryan continuing the tradition and doing well in the national plumbing event next month.” SkillsUSA is a national organization for students in trade, industrial, technical and health education programs. SkillsUSA Competitions are held annually to recognize the achievements of career-technical students and to encourage them to strive for excellence and pride in their chosen occupations.
