November 24, 2009 --
Lorain County JVS students and staff once again helped LifeShare Blood Services complete a very successful blood drive. Both high school and Adult Career Center students and staff took time out of their day to donate blood to those in need.
"During the two day drive, 218 units of blood were collected," commented Susan Wallace, Diversified Health Occupations Instructor and Blood Drive Coordinator. "This is close to the amount we usually collect at the JVS for both our fall and spring drives. This was a record-setting drive!"
"Lifeshare will award one $500 scholarship to JVS graduating seniors for every 35 units of blood collected. To date, LifeShare will award a total of $4500 for student scholarships," stated Wallace.
Additionally, students in the Diversified Health Occupations Program manned the registration tables and assisted the phlebotomists by ensuring students and staff were feeling well before they headed back to their school or work activities.
"According to the recruitment representative from Lifeshare, the JVS has been one of the leading organizations for blood donations," affirmed JVS Principal, Jill Petitti. "LifeShare was very grateful that our students and staff rose to the occasion and helped them with their critical need during a time of blood shortage."
