Carpentry Student Elected as SkillsUSA Regional President
L-R: Dominic Rogers and Austyn Schuler of North Ridgeville
December 4, 2009 --
Dominic Rogers, a junior from North Ridgeville in the Lorain County JVS Carpentry Program, was recently elected as President for the North Central Region of SkillsUSA. This is the first time a Lorain County JVS student was elected President for this regional officer position.
As Regional President, Rogers will be responsible for helping to plan the SkillsUSA competition held at the Medina County Career Center in March. In addition, Dominic will be attending the SkillsUSA Regional Officer Training Institute in Leesburg, Virginia with the other officers from around the country. There are 49 officers who will be attending from Ohio. The group will also tour key sites in Washington, DC as part of their trip.
Austyn Schuler, Carpentry junior from North Ridgeville, ran for the Vice President officer position. He was not elected but will continue his interest and participation in SkillsUSA, and with the leadership skills he has gathered, he hopes to run for a state leadership officer position in the near future.
Roger's successful bid for the office is due largely in part because of the time and effort his voting delegates put toward his successful campaign.
Seven Lorain County JVS voting delegates campaigned for Roger's at the November SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference held in Columbus. The voting delegates are Breanna Altomare (Carpentry student from Keystone), Cody Brown (Carpentry student from Oberlin), Nick Glass (Industrial Electricity student from Columbia), Nick Glowaski (Industrial Electricity student from Firelands), Adam Morrow (Industrial Electricity student from Amherst), Brandon Wolfe (Industrial Electricity student from Midview) and Matt Nonmaker (Plumbing and Pipefitting student from Midview).
SkillsUSA is a Career-Technical Student Organization serving more than 34,000 students and Advisors in Industrial/Engineering Systems and Health Career Training Programs.
