December 23, 2009 -- Adult Cosmetology students recently performed manicures in exchange for can goods at the Oberlin Public Library as part of their 'Manicure for Hunger' program. This is the second year the Adult Career Center participated in the holiday nail painting.
"Many people don't have a lot of money, so they give a canned good and get something back," said Sandy Pitts, the Adult Cosmetology instructor overseeing the holiday nail painting. "Everyone loves a little pampering," she added.
Last year the cosmetology students collected three grocery bags full of canned goods and approximately $30.00 in donations for the Oberlin Food Pantry. This year, during the 2-day holiday nail painting, the students collected eleven bags of groceries and $70.00 in donations.
