March 12, 2010 -- Lifeshare Community Blood Services Donates $6,000 To JVS For Student Scholarships

Two blood drives organized this school year by the Lorain County JVS Diversified Health Occupations (DHO) students netted 426 units of whole blood and red blood cells.

LifeShare Community Blood Services donates $500 to the JVS for every 35 pints of blood collected. Over $6,000 will be available for scholarships for graduating JVS seniors.

"Our school provides LifeShare with a large amount of donations every year," said JVS DHO Instructor Susan Wallace. "We rank in the top three among school donations in Northeast Ohio."

"We are proud of our students and staff members for their commitment to the blood bank," continued Wallace. "We provide a wonderful community service to the blood bank and the scholarship money is a tremendous help to our graduating seniors."

Web and Graphic Design student, Cody Laughlin of Firelands High School, designed a logo that was used on duffle bags that were given to students and staff who donated blood. The duffle bags were provided by a grant from the JVS Educational Foundation.
