    Students Win National Awards at SkillsUSA Competition

    July 27, 2010 -- Two Lorain County JVS students ranked among the top students in the nation at the recent SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City, Missouri. SkillsUSA is a national organization that serves high school and college career-technical students enrolled in trade, industrial, technical and health-related programs. Over 5,600 students from around the United States attended the event.

    Courtney Echstenkamper earned a 1st Place Gold Medal in the Basic Health Care Event. Echstenkamper is a recent graduate of Wellington High School and completed the Health Science Technology Program.

    Jordan Higgins received a 2nd Place Silver Medal in the Internetworking event. Higgens is a recent graduate of Amherst High School and completed the Lorain County JVS Network Communications Technology Program.

    Other students representing the Lorain County JVS on the SkillsUSA national stage included: Cody Carroll, of Wellington placing 9th in the First Aid/CPR event; James Tansey, of Amherst, in the Robotics and Automation Technology event; Christopher Kuhn, of Brookside, in the Heating, Ventilation and AC/Refrigeration event; and Cory Trent, of Elyria, in the Robotics and Automation Technology event. Adam Morrow, of Amherst, and Nick Glass, of Columbia represented served as voting delegates for Ohio.
