
April 30, 2012 -- Lorain County JVS Early Childhood Education students competed at the State Competitions of Family Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Eight award winners will advance to the National Competitions to be held in Orlando, Florida in July. Their names are underlined below! In addition, the JVS Early Childhood Education senior class took 1st Place for their Power State Project "Make Your Blue Jeans Go Green."
AVON
Ashley Kreis was awarded a gold medal in the Promote & Publicize FCCLA event and will advance to nationals.
CLEARVIEW
Nicole Hoerrle was awarded a gold medal in the Promote & Publicize FCCLA event and will advance to nationals, Brandy Taylor was awarded a silver medal in National Programs in Action and will advance to nationals, Alexis Thompson was awarded a gold medal in Chapter Showcase Manual, La'Shierry Thompson-Moore received a silver medal in the Focus on Children event.
COLUMBIA
Katelyn Talarczyk was awarded a silver medal for Nationals Programs in Action and will advance to nationals, Dorothy Wolanin was awarded gold for Life Event Planning.
ELYRIA
Taylor Hart and Emily Schuster both received a bronze medal in Interpersonal Communications
FIRELANDS
Gina Januzzi and Megan Kudela both received a gold medal in the Chapter Service Project Display event and will advance to nationals, Jessaline Poyle received a bronze medal in the National Programs in Action event
KEYSTONE
Sunny Ali received a silver medal in the Teach & Train event, Abbey Baumhardt received a silver medal in the Leadership event, Ashley Zuckerman received a silver medal on the Chapter Showcase Display Team
MIDVIEW
Hannah Baumgartner and Haley Bowens received a silver medal on the Chapter Showcase Display Team, Emily Gladwin received a gold medal in the Promote & Publicize FCCLA Team event and will advance to nationals, Sammi Jo Shaffer received a bronze medal in the National Programs in Action event, Hayley Weese received gold for Chapter Showcase Manual.
NORTH RIDGEVILLE
Lori Cook received a gold medal in the Life Event Planning event.
OBERLIN
Emily Armstrong received a bronze medal in the National Programs in Action event

Courtney Brubaker took gold in Chapter Service Project Display and will be advancing to nationals
FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical organization for students in family and consumer sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns, including teen pregnancy, parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, environment, nutrition and fitness, teen violence and career exploration. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life -- planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making and interpersonal communication -- necessary in the home and workplace.
