Board President Honored by the Ohio School Boards Association

The Lorain County JVS Board of Education President, Mary Kathryn Karpus, is being honored by the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) with their Master Board Member Award and Award of Achievement.
The Master Board Member Award is given to school board members who dedicate themselves to improving their boardmanship skills and knowledge. All Master Board Members must first earn OSBA's Award of Achievement. The Master Board Member is only awarded once to an individual and is recognized for life.
Principal Petitti's Update
We have successfully reached the end of our third quarter. I am pleased to announce that many of our students are being inducted into the National Technical Honor Society this month. Moreover, many students have been accepted into a variety of colleges or secured employment in their chosen field. Students have also been competing in Career-Technical contests both locally and regionally and several students are now advancing to the state and national leg of these events.
Early Childhood Education Students Help Local Daycare Center

Students in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program organized a community service project called Supplies 4 Success, to raise money to purchase school supplies for the Mildred Bond Childcare Center in Lorain. The supplies went to preschoolers that weren't able to purchase the school materials on their own.
Amy Anderson, director of the childcare center, met recently with JVS students and was impressed with their initiative.
Adult Cosmetology Students Host Cut-A-Thon
The Lorain County JVS Adult Cosmetology students are hosting a "Cut-A-Thon" in support of breast cancer research, education and treatment.
The event will take place on Monday, April 27th from 5pm-8:30pm in the EDGEucated Cuts Salon at the JVS. Services will include a haircut and blow dry for $10, and a hand paraffin hot wax for $2.
Lorain County JVS Announces SkillsUSA Competition Regional Winners
Congratulations to the following students who recently participated in the North Central District SkillsUSA Regional Competition. All 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will advance to the State Competition in Columbus on April 24-25th.
Culinary Teams Are State Champions Once Again!

The Lorain County JVS Culinary Academy successfully defended their state titles in both the Culinary Team event and the Knowledge Bowl/Management Team event at the recent State Competition held at the Columbus Convention Center. The competition, administered by the Ohio Hospitality Educational Foundation, is sponsored by many regional and national food purveyors and culinary universities, including Gordon Food Service, Johnson & Wales and The Culinary Institute of America. More than 175 students in 42 teams from 17 schools competed in the two events.
Business Students Raise Funds for Special Olypmics

Lorain County JVS Business students raised $1,150 for Special Olympics and decorated the halls of their school in the process.
The students sold paper links that they fashioned into a "chain of love" which they proudly hung in the hallways of the JVS. In total, over 4,300 links were sold. The students also had a Guitar Hero competition to help raise funds.
LCJVS BPA Students Receive High Honors at Skills Competitions

Twenty-one Lorain County JVS students received high honors at the regional competition for Business Professionals of America (BPA) and advanced to the State Competition in Columbus. At the State competition, Danielle Garnett, from North Ridgeville, placed 4th in the Fundamental Word Processing event and will advance to the National Competition in Dallas, Texas in May.
