Nationally Ranked Culinary Students Invited to Showcase Their Skills for Restaurant Mogul

Four Lorain County JVS Culinary Arts students make restaurant design look like a piece of cake, and that got the attention of some savvy restaurateurs and culinary professionals at a recent ProStart Culinary Competition held in Columbus.
Students Cara Wingard (Midview), Amanda Smith (Amherst), Sierra Hammel (Midview), and Megan Whitman (Amherst) presented their concept and design for an Italian themed restaurant they called "The Checkered Table," as part of the ProStart Management Team competition. The students highlighted all aspects of their restaurant--detailing everything from the menu to the marketing plan--and the competition required that they presented information about their restaurant to a group of "potential investors."

Lorain County JVS Early Childhood Education students took high honors at the State Competition of Family Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently held in Columbus. Many students will be advancing to the National Competition in Chicago, IL in early July.

Six Lorain County JVS students will be heading to Kansas City, Missouri in June for the National competition of SkillsUSA, a Career-Technical Student Organization serving students in Industrial/Engineering Systems and Health Careers Training Programs.

Students in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) Student Youth Group excelled at the State Competition held recently. Six students will be traveling to the National Competition held in Anaheim, California in early May.

DECA-An Association of Marketing Students held their State Competition in Columbus recently.
The Lorain County JVS Marketing & Management Program took 1st Place in the Ohio DECA Chapter of the Year Event. Erica Castro (Columbia) and Angela Roos (Firelands) then traveled to Louisville, Kentucky in late April to represent Ohio and the Lorain County JVS at the International Career Development Conference.

Teamwork Helps Building Trades Students Achieve Big Results

Four students from the Building Trades Academy recently competed at the State SkillsUSA Competition. The four placed 2nd in the TeamWorks event. The team consisted of Greg Long, a junior Masonry Trades student from Amherst; Ryan Altheide, a senior Industrial Electricity student from Elyria; Matt Nonamaker, a junior Plumbing & Pipefitting student from Midview; and Dominic Rogers, a junior Carpentry student from North Ridgeville.
