Students Renovate Farmhouse Using Green Building Technology
The Lorain County JVS will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 19th to celebrate a very special student accomplishment--the complete renovation of a farmhouse built in 1903. The house is now being used as office and warehouse space for NASA's Central Operation of Resources for Educators. NASA CORE is an educational materials distribution center that was established at the JVS in 1987.
"The majority of the student work was completed during the 2009-2010 school year. The farmhouse was completely gutted by the students and was brought down to the framed shell," stated JVS Supervisor Jerry Pavlik, who oversees the Building Trades programs. "Measures were taken to implement energy efficient systems throughout the house, with a large part of the work being done by our students."
