JVS Ribbon Cutting Event a Success

The JVS recently held a special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to dedicate the new Precision Machine Technology Lab and NASA CORE Farmhouse, renovated by JVS students.

Many business, educational, government, and media partners attended to help us celebrate these two exciting accomplishments. Enjoy the opportunity to view pictures, a video created by JVS Web & Graphic Design students Marissa Liller and Graham Rothgery, and an interview with building trades students posted on the Morning Journal website.

JVS Hosts Prime Rib Dinner On November 4

The Lorain County JVS Culinary Academy is hosting its annual Prime Rib Dinner on Thursday, November 4th beginning at 6pm.

The cost of the dinner is $25 per person and includes: a 12 oz. prime rib with au jus, baked potato, fresh vegetables, salad, breads, assorted desserts, and a beverage. Chicken fingers and french fries will be available to purchase for children.

Challenging Times but a Promising Future for JVS Precision Machine Technology Program

Lorain County JVS affirms its commitment to supplying area manufacturers with a trained workforce with a significant renovation of the school's Precision Machine Technology Lab (PMT).

"Moving and remodeling the PMT lab is the first step in a two step process to redesign and upgrade our manufacturing wing,"
stated JVS Superintendent John Nolan.

Law Enforcement Students Experience CSI at B-W
Brandon Saunders and Enrique Sanchez

Two Lorain County JVS Law Enforcement students joined 52 area high school students and their science teachers recently at Baldwin-Wallace College for a day of mock crime scene investigation.

The students utilized forensic science technology and collection techniques. Brandon Saunders from Firelands and Enrique Sanchez from Midview investigated a variety of "crime scenes" with the help of
their JVS science instructor, David Charles.

Marketing Students Compete at DECA Competition

Lorain County JVS Business Academy students received high honors in the DECA - An Association of Marketing Students District 8 Competitive Event hosted at the Nia Center at Kalahari Waterpark in Sandusky. Students from thirteen high schools showcased their knowledge and skills in marketing, merchandising, and management.

Lauren Smyth, a junior from Firelands, took 1st Place in the Parliamentary Law Event. Erica Castro, a senior from Columbia, took 1st Place in the Female Public Relations Representative Event.

Industrial Electricity Student Elected to SkillsUSA Regional Office

JVS Industrial Electricity student, Adam Morrow, from Amherst High School was elected Parliamentarian for SkillsUSA North Central Region. JVS Voting Delegates assisted Morrow with his campaign at the organization's Fall Leadership Conference in Columbus.

Morrow will advance to the Regional Officers' Leadership Training Institute to be held in Washington, D.C. in January.

The Lorain County JVS, in cooperation with the Safety and Education Department of AAA East Central and AAA Insurance, hosted the 2nd annual Lorain County Young Driver Competition recently. This local competition was held to offer students an opportunity to be rewarded for exhibiting positive driving behaviors.

Staff and Students Support Breast Cancer Research

JVS teachers, staff and students raised over $600 to support breast cancer research and showed their support by wearing pink on Lee National Denim Day in October.
