The Adult Career Center provides training for adults looking to change careers or upgrade current job skills. Workers with specialized skills like electricians, carpenters and welders are in critically short supply in many large economies, a shortfall that marks another obstacle to the global economic recovery, a research paper by Manpower concludes.
Skilled welders, electricians and carpenters are in short supply.
"It becomes a real choke-point in future economic growth," Manpower Chief Executive Jeff Joerres said. "We believe strongly this is really an issue in the labor market."

The EDGEucated Cuts Salon is operated by second year students in the Adult Career Center's Cosmetology Program under the supervision of licensed instructors. This full service salon is usually open Tuesday through Thursdays, from 5-8:30pm, year round.
A complete range of services is available to the public at very reasonable costs. These services include hair and scalp care, permanent waves, color treatments, skin care, waxing, nail and foot care. The Redkin line of retail products is also available for purchase.
For walk-in customers, services are performed on a "first come, first served" basis in the time allowed. To schedule an appointment call 440/774-1051, ext. 2254.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Frugal Northeast Ohioans are holding on to their cars longer, and the number of places to get those cars serviced is falling. Those two trends have auto service companies looking to grow in the region.
"A lot of people are telling us they expect to get 150,000 miles out of their cars. We never used to hear that," said John Turk, president and chief executive of Conrad's Tire Express & Total Car Care in Cleveland.

OBERLIN - A pilot project that began in July to provide bus service for Oberlin residents twice a week to various parts of the county will conŽtinue through December, thanks to about $7,500 in funding from the city provided to Lorain County Transit.

As provisions of federal health-care reform take effect and more residents have insurance coverage - and northwest Ohio's population ages - the local medical work force shortage will increase, officials say.
The number of doctors per 1,000 northwest Ohioans already is about 20 percent below the state average. And that percentage could double in a decade or so, said Dr. Jeffrey Gold, chancellor and executive vice president for biosciences and health affairs at the University of Toledo.
Golden 30: Growing Companies Demonstrating World-Class Performance
The Morning Journal and Lorain County Community College, in conjunction with the Community Foundation of Lorain County, First Place Bank, GLIDE, the Lorain County Growth Partnership, Lorain County JVS and Team Lorain County will recognize the fastest growing new and established companies in Lorain, Erie and Huron counties. The top thirty companies (15 new and 15 established) will be selected based on average sales and employment growth.
