JVS and NASA Offer Free Summer Career Camps for Students
The Lorain County JVS and NASA are joining together to offer a free, summer career exploration program for students entering the 9th and 10th grades, from all of the JVS feeder school districts.
The four-day ExCEL Summer Career Camp is designed to give students a hands-on experience in a variety of career areas. The purpose of the program is to help students acquire information about the many career options available to them.
The camp is held from Monday, June 13th through Thursday, June 16th from 9am until 12pm. Students will have the opportunity to explore one career area of their choice each day.
Students Touch a Piece of History as Steel from World Trade Center Arrives at JVS
The JVS, through the personal passion and efforts of one of the school's administrators, received a 28 foot steel beam that was retrieved from the rubble of the World Trade Center.
Welding students cut the beam into four pieces. One piece will be incorporated into a memorial, designed and constructed by JVS students from a variety of career-technical programs. The memorial will honor the fallen safety services personnel that were involved in the recovery efforts on 9/11/01. It is slated to be completed in time for a dedication ceremony in September, marking the tenth anniversary of the World Trade Center disaster.
Student Operated Greenhouse to Open on April 18th for Spring Plant Sales
The Lorain County JVS Greenhouse will be open for spring plant sales beginning on Monday, April 18.
Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday, from 8am-10am, and 12pm-1:30pm on school days. The Greenhouse will be closed on Friday, April 22, Monday, April 25, Thursday, May 5, and Friday May 6.
Please note, the Greenhouse will be open on Saturday, May 7, from 9am-1pm to accommodate those customers wishing to make purchases for Mothers' Day.
Marketing Class and Cinderella's Closet Help Girls Go To The Prom

Marketing & Management students partnered with Cinderella's Closet in Sandusky, Ohio to help provide prom dresses to girls who could not otherwise afford to attend their prom.
Through donations of new and gently used formal dresses and accessories from JVS students and staff, the students helped "Turn Dresses Into Dreams" for some very deserving young ladies.
Cinderella's Closet takes student referrals from high school guidance, teachers, church, youth service counselors, and social care agencies.

The Adult Career Center's Computerized Business Technology (CBT) students spent a day visiting local resale shops to coordinate outfits appropriate for a professional office environment. The students' mission was to "Dress for Success" on a budget.
Prior to the field trip, Instructor Terri Brennan discussed appropriate office attire with her students, so they would know exactly what type of clothes to look for.
Educational Foundation Board Selects Student Representatives
The Lorain County JVS Educational Foundation recently appointed two new student representatives to serve on the board.
Jordan Cusumano is a Culinary Arts student from Clearview and Tyler Higginbotham is a Computerized Design & Drafting student from Amherst. Each will serve a one-year term.
Blood Drives Earn Scholarships for Students
Two blood drives organized this school year by students in the Health Science Technology Program netted 360 units of whole blood and red blood cells.
LifeShare Community Blood Services donates $500 to the JVS for every 35 pints of blood collected. Approximately $5,000 will be available for scholarships for graduating JVS seniors this year.
Landscape and Greenhouse Management Students Shine at State FFA Event
A team of four students from the Landscape and Greenhouse Management Program participated in the State FFA Contest at Tolles Technical School in Plain City, Ohio.
The JVS team placed 6th overall in the state. Cody Rhine (N. Ridgeville) placed 9th overall, receiving 1st Place in the zero turn mower contest. Jessica Duplaga (Keystone) placed 19th, Josh Simon (N. Ridgeville) placed 26th and Gabbi Torres (Amherst) placed 28th.
Students Receive High Honors at FCCLA Regional Rally
Sixty-nine Lorain County JVS students competed at the Regional Family Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Competition recently held at the Lorain County JVS. Thirty-five award winners will advance to the State Competitions in Columbus. Click "Read More" for a complete list of names.
