Students Inducted into National Technical Honor Society
Twenty-two JVS students were recently inducted into the National-Technical Honor Society (NTHS).
The students were honored for outstanding achievement and success in career-technical education. They were selected for membership in the NTHS based on the qualities of citizenship, leadership, workmanship and scholarship.

JVS & NASA Offer Free Summer Career Camps for Students
The Lorain County JVS and NASA are joining together to offer a free, summer career exploration program for students entering the 9th and 10th grades from the following school districts: Amherst, Avon, Avon Lake, Clearview, Columbia, Elyria, Firelands, Keystone, Midview, North Ridgeville, Oberlin, Sheffield-Sheffield Lake and Wellington.
The four-day ExCEL Summer Career Camp is designed to give students a hands-on experience in a variety of career areas. The purpose of the program is to help students acquire information about the many career options available to them. Click "Read More" for an application.
Heating & Air Conditioning Student Receives Top Award at State SkillsUSA Competition for 2nd Consecutive Year
Christopher Kuhn, Heating & Air Conditioning senior from Brookside High School, took top honors, a Gold Medal at the State SkillsUSA Competition held in Columbus. He will advance to the national leg of this competition in Kansas City, Missouri in June. This will be a repeat performance at nationals for Kuhn, who competed last year in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Event, ranking 11th in the nation. Kuhn is training to be a service technician at Gundlach Heating & Air Conditioning in Sandusky.

Early Childhood & Hospitality Students Receive High Honors at FCCLA State Competition
Thirty-five students competed at the State Family Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Event. Six Early Childhood Education students will advance to the national leg of the competition in Anaheim, California in July.
These students, pictured to the right, are: Emily Forcier (Brookside), Katie Talarczyk (Columbia), Dorothy Wolanin (Columbia), Rossana Edwards (Elyria), Tiffany Clifford (N. Ridgeville), Lori Cook (N. Ridgeville).

Adult Career Center Offers Summer Classes-Register Today!
The Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center will offer summer courses to help students prepare for fall courses and employment.
A variety of introductory and intermediate programs will be offered including: Basic Computer, Basic Machining, Introduction to CNC, and more.

Culinary Academy Students Advance to National FCCLA Culinary Competition in California
Lorain County JVS Culinary Arts students took top honors at the recent statewide Family, Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Competition at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio. The students competed against over 20 culinary teams from around the state.
The following students, pictured to the right, received a 1st Place award and will advance to the National FCCLA Competition in Anaheim, California in July. Janie Duke (Brookside), Jordan Cusumano (Clearview), Ashley Barnes (North Ridgeville), and Autumn Rutherford (Elyria).

Adult Cosmetology Student To Compete in National SkillsUSA Event
Jessica Nguyen, a second year student in the JVS Adult Career Center's Cosmetology Program, took a gold medal at the recent state SkillsUSA Competition in Columbus.
This was the first time that the Adult Career Center has sent a post-secondary student to compete in this career-technical showcase event.
Adult Career Center Hosts Pinning Ceremony for Medical Assisting Students
The Adult Career Center held its annual Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony for students in the Medical Assisting Program. The pinning ceremony celebrated the students' journeys through the medical assisting program and their preparedness to take the CMA exam and earn their industry credential.
Class speakers Jacquelin Woodings and Kriana Miller applauded each of their classmates for their hard work and effort.
The Florence Nightingale Award was presented to Emily Saccardi for being a role-model for other students, her performance in the program, and for the compassion she showed to her patients and peers.
Community Invited to Submit Designs for 9/11 Memorial
Lorain County JVS is looking for the community's help in designing a memorial to the fallen heroes of the World Trade Center tragedy on 9/11/01. The design must incorporate a steel beam the JVS received from the World Trade Center for this purpose.
All designs can be mailed or emailed to Lorain County JVS by May 17th. Shortly after May 17th the JVS committee spearheading the project will select a design. The memorial will be constructed by JVS students. Click "Read More" for mailing instructions and blueprints.
Landscape and Industrial Equipment Mechanic Students Receive High Honors at FFA State Competition
Students from the Landscape and Greenhouse Management and Industrial Equipment Mechanics Program attended the recent FFA State Skills Classic Competition on the campus of The Ohio State University-ATI in Wooster.
A team of Industrial Equipment Mechanics students, pictured to the right, took 1st Place in the Agricultural Mechanics Skills event and 3rd Place in the District Outdoor Power Equipment Contest. Team members were Mason Bremke of Oberlin, Ken Turner and Dustin Boyce both from Wellington.
