JVS Salutes the Class of 2011
As the school year draws to a close the Lorain County JVS was proud to award 410 graduating seniors their career-technical certificates at a special ceremony at the Palace Theater on May 26th.

College Bound Seniors Awarded Scholarships from JVS Educational Foundation
Each year JVS students receive thousands of dollars in scholarships for their performance at career-technical skill events.
Although too numerous to mention every scholarship awarded, click "Read More" to preview the list of students who received scholarships from the JVS Educational Foundation, the JVS Teachers'
Association, and the JVS Board of Education.
Adult Career Center to Offer Summer Programs
The Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center will offer summer programs for the first time, to help provide increased retraining options and valuable certification for Lorain County residents as the job market improves in northeast Ohio.
Registration is now open for summer classes. Students may register online at www.lcjvs.com/adult or by calling 440-774-1051 ext. 2254.
Student Advisory Committee Leads The Effort for JVS Mascot
A school mascot was just one of the outcomes of the Principal's Student Advisory Committee, started by JVS Principal Jill Petitti this past school year.
"I wanted to be more responsive to the students' needs and get their input on how we can work together to make Lorain County JVS a better school."
Buckle-up Bowl Reminds Students to Drive Safely

Year-end graduations, celebrations, and proms always provide an opportunity to remind high school students to drive safely. The JVS sponsors a series of activities centered around a "Buckle-up Bowl" event to help communicate the importance of safe driving habits to students.
JVS Principal Jill Petitti received the Outstanding Contribution Award from the Safe Community Coalition and the Lorain County General Health District for her efforts on behalf of JVS students. This is the first time this award has been awarded to anyone outside of the law enforcement community.
Auto Tech Students Troubleshoot Mustang in Ford Motor Competition
Two Auto Technology students, Nate Conner (pictured on right) and Jason Cooper (pictured on left), both from Midview, placed in the top ten in the state at the recent Ford Motor Company/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition in Dayton.
The competition required the team to troubleshoot ten problems on a 2012 Ford Mustang Premium with a 3.7L V-6 engine.
Culinary Students Raise Funds for Oberlin School's Farm Collaborative
Students in the Culinary Academy donated $600.00 raised through fundraising activities throughout the year to the Oberlin School Farm Collaborative.
The collaborative provides outdoor instruction and laboratory facilities for students and staff of Oberlin City Schools, Lorain County Academy and Lorain County Boys and Girls Club.
Through real life experience with sustainable agriculture, students will produce food that can be used to supply their school lunch programs and provide healthy locally grown snacks for the partner organizations.
Business Students Ranked High at National Leadership Event
Three Lorain County JVS Business Academy students recently competed in the state Business Professionals of America Leadership Conference and advanced to the national leg of the event held in Washington, DC in May.
Latasha Ensign (Wellington-pictured left) took 3rd place at the state competition and placed in the top 25% in the nation in the Keyboarding Productions event.
Brody Kaufman (Midview-pictured middle) took 5th place at the state competition and placed 12th at nationals in the Fundamental Accounting Event.
Candace Seel (Midview-pictured right) took 5th place at the state competition and placed in the top 25% in the nation in the Payroll Accounting event.
Marketing Program Receives Gold Certification at National DECA Conference in Orlando for School Based Enterprise
The Lorain County JVS senior Marketing and Management Program was among 42 schools across the nation that was recognized for the management and operation of its school store. The program has been awarded DECA's School-Based Enterprise Gold Level Certification. The Marketing & Management Program has operated a school store for 40 years, since the JVS was first established.
Under the direction of their instructor, Linda Varga, the following students (as pictured L-R) participated in the certification process: Ted Draudt (Midview), Erica Castro (Columbia), Eugene McCoy (Clearview), Angela Roos (Firelands), and Justin Bockmore (Wellington).
Students Obtain State FFA Degree
Four members of the Lorain County JVS Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter received their State FFA Degree. The State FFA Degree is the highest level of membership a student can obtain on the state level. It is only awarded to the top 2% of Ohio FFA membership. Approximately 600 students were awarded this honor this year.
