Twenty-seven year old Davey "Gravy" Kasper, woodwinds (Saxophones, Clarinets, Flutes and EWI) , has been privileged to play with the Temptations, Al Martino, Guy Lombardo, Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra (Playing the role of "Jimmy Dorsey), Tito Puente Jr., Either Orchestra and has opened up for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Pancho Sanchez and Tony Bennett. Kasper grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland and received his degree in music from Cleveland State University in the summer of 2006.
Active on the local music scene, Kasper enjoys teaching saxophone, clarinet and flute in Downtown Cleveland and the Suburbs. A journey man musician since his early teens, Kasper is involved playing with many groups in town regularly including: Revolution Brass Band, Velvet Voyage, Shout, Ernie Krivda and the Fat Tuesday Big Band, Dan Zola Orchestra, Eddie Brunswick and the Hot Rod Lincoln's and several creative projects. Great Lakes Science Center has an exciting and unique volunteer opportunity for students who are interested in science and science education: Science Break Camps. Camps run during school breaks, which include sessions for winter, spring and 10 weeks in the summer. Camp volunteers are the extra hands and eyes for the camp staff. Volunteers help facilitate camp activities and operations. Camp volunteers monitor groups of younger children and act as role models for appropriate behavior and safety. Volunteers should have an enthusiasm for the arts and sciences which is an essential part of engaging our campers in the many different classes we offer. Great Lakes Science Center has an exciting and unique volunteer opportunity for students who are interested in science and science education: Science Break Camps. Camps run during school breaks, which include sessions for winter, spring and 10 weeks in the summer. Camp volunteers are the extra hands and eyes for the camp staff. Volunteers help facilitate camp activities and operations. Camp volunteers monitor groups of younger children and act as role models for appropriate behavior and safety. Volunteers should have an enthusiasm for the arts and sciences which is an essential part of engaging our campers in the many different classes we offer. Spring Break Camp dates are March 26-30 & April 9-13 all sessions will be held at Great Lakes Science Center in downtown Cleveland. A letter of recommendation is not required but it is recommended. The Varsity Lady Eagles soared past the Lady Pirates of Rocky River last night 41-39. The Eagles trailed for most of the game, but with hard work and teamwork the Eagles were able to stun Rocky River and put a stop to their 5-year undefeated winning-streak in the WSC. Great Lakes Science Center has an exciting and unique volunteer opportunity for students who are interested in science and science education: Science Break Camps. Camps run during school breaks, which include sessions for winter, spring and 10 weeks in the summer. Camp volunteers are the extra hands and eyes for the camp staff. Volunteers help facilitate camp activities and operations. Camp volunteers monitor groups of younger children and act as role models for appropriate behavior and safety. Volunteers should have an enthusiasm for the arts and sciences which is an essential part of engaging our campers in the many different classes we offer. Spring Break Camp dates are March 26-30 & April 9-13 all sessions will be held at Great Lakes Science Center in downtown Cleveland. A letter of recommendation is not required but it is recommended. From Feb. 1: Reminders for the week: Academic Challenge news: The radio quiz program featuring academic teams from Lorain County high schools opened its 22nd season on WEOL on Monday January 30th with a competition between academic teams from Columbia High School and Lorain Clearview. It was a decisive 270 to 60 victory for Columbia's team, consisting of team captain Veronica Joseph, Austin Wood, and Corey East, who was the recipient of the program's "Standout Scholar" award for contributing the most to his team. Columbia's drive to victory began in the third round, which had the unique theme of Super Homonyms words that are pronounced the same but with different meanings and, often, spellings. Corey East in particular proved skillful in identifying these words as Columbia took the round 50 points to 0! The "Standout" award to East was the first this year of weekly awards determined by scorekeepers and faculty advisors which includes a $50 check to the winner. Columbia's lead continued to the end of the program, including an impressive rally in the final toss-up and bonus round. Congratulations Academic Challenge Team! Guidance News: Attention Juniors: Future Connections, a program of University Circle Inc, is an 8 week summer study and internship opportunity for rising seniors in high school. There will be 5 students from Lorain County chosen through an application and interview process. Students earn a $1,000 stipend for their work. The internship includes 4 weeks at a cultural institution and 4 weeks at a business along with special workshops. The ideal candidate is reliable, high-achieving, and interested in math and science. Great Lakes Science Center has an exciting and unique volunteer opportunity for students who are interested in science and science education: Science Break Camps. Camps run during school breaks, which include sessions for winter, spring and 10 weeks in the summer. Camp volunteers are the extra hands and eyes for the camp staff. Volunteers help facilitate camp activities and operations. Camp volunteers monitor groups of younger children and act as role models for appropriate behavior and safety. Volunteers should have an enthusiasm for the arts and sciences which is an essential part of engaging our campers in the many different classes we offer. Spring Break Camp dates are March 26-30 & April 9-13 all sessions will be held at Great Lakes Science Center in downtown Cleveland. A letter of recommendation is not required but it is recommended. Letters of recommendation should be submitted at the student's interview. Applications are due no later than February 24, 2012. Interviews will be scheduled on February 28 & 29 from 3:00 to 5:30pm and Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 9:30am - 12:00pm. The minimum commitment for Spring Break Camps is one eight-hour day. Join us every morning and keep the needles and hooks busy! • Civil War Club - This week's topic is Civil War Conspiracy Theories. The 1st U.S. Sharpshooters will present. • All 9th grade students will be an assessment test called NWEA Measure of Academic Progress. The assessment will be taken on the computers in the media center on January 30th through February 2nd. • Key Club members should pick up their t-shirt order form outside of Mrs. Trefz's room. Your form and $8 are due Monday, January 30. • Kindness 365 will meet Tuesday, January 31 at 7 a.m. in Mrs. Drake's room. • Blood Drive - Students who signed up to give blood need to report to the blood drive table at the beginning of the period you signed up for.
