There is Still Time to Register for Adult Career Courses

The JVS Adult Career Center is enrolling students for fall courses, and the staff is hoping residents who are looking for a new opportunity or wanting to reboot their careers will register for classes now.

"We are working hard in the Adult Career Center to meet the current needs of our students as well as the future needs of the workforce, and doing it all with the goal of exceeding all expectations,” said Kristian Smith, Adult Career Center Director. "We encourage prospective students to meet with our staff so we can make their goals a reality.”

Medical Assisting is one of the fasting-growing health careers that offers amazing opportunities for advancement. The JVS Adult Career Center focuses on hands-on learning in their state-of-the-art medical lab. Students are introduced to real time electronic health record systems, learn and use medical terminology when interacting with patients and doctors while maintaining legal and ethical boundaries and also earn key healthcare certifications such as CPR and First Aid.

Careers in the automotive field are growing with new advancements in technology. The JVS offers the only Auto Technician program for adults in Lorain County. Students will be prepared for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) testing certification and will be ready for employment in the automotive repair field.

Both of these in-demand career programs begin this September, so call today to set up an information session with a JVS staff member.

The Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center also offers the Ohio Adult Diploma Program. Students can earn an official high school diploma from the State of Ohio and an approved industry credential. The program is free to adults 22 years old and older, living in Ohio and do not have a high school diploma or a GED.

JVS staff will work with adult learners to develop individual plans to identify the courses and assessments needed to graduate and earn a diploma and industry certification. Programs currently being offered are Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Phlebotomy Technician, Precision Machine Technology and State Tested Nursing Aide (STNA).

Shaina Duris, who participated in the Adult Diploma Program and phlebotomy course said that the JVS Adult Career Center has literally changed her life. “I'm so happy for what is about to come for me on my journey. I can't believe I have my high school diploma, and I'm a certified phlebotomist. It was a challenging long six months, but the road was definitely worth it.”
