Early Childhood Education Students Give Back

Junior students in the Early Childhood Education program have been busy collecting donations for the Blessing House through fundraiser events and donation drives.

Recently the students held a ‘Lemonade with the Ladies’ event for their preschool students and their parent/guardian that included Mommy and Me Yoga, a visit to the JVS Adult Career Center EDGEucated Cuts Salon, and delicious snacks.

The yoga session was led by Wendy Barrett, Co-Owner and Teacher at Unwind Yoga in Amherst, who was really impressed with how well the four-year-olds did. “Even if they weren’t paying attention at any given moment, they were in their own space, doing their own thing and you couldn’t ask for more.”

Sherri Whisman, grandmother to JVS preschooler Madelyn Niece, shared how wonderful she thought the evening’s events were. “Madelyn was so excited for this night; she kept telling me that we were going to do yoga together and that her Mom had showed her some moves beforehand. We had a great time.”

According to Hilary Duffala, Early Childhood Education junior Instructor, to attend the event, the parents either donated money or supplies for the Blessing House.

“We also did a donation drive with the preschoolers,” said Duffala. “They were given a wish list of items for the Blessing House and every morning we counted the number of items and added them to our classroom thermometer. If they met the goal of 100 items, they got a pizza party. We collected 267 items and $197.00!”

The preschoolers and JVS Early Childhood Education junior students will be having their pizza part this Friday, March 29 to celebrate their successful fundraiser.
