Heating & Air Conditioning Students Take Top Score

Junior and senior students in the Lorain County JVS Heating and Air Conditioning program recently competed in the Akron Canton Heating and Cooling Association 2019 Skills Challenge at Stark State Community College.

Events included electrical troubleshooting, sheet metal, soft skills, refrigeration troubleshooting and brazing. Students had forty-five minutes for each competition event.

Caleb Osko, senior from Amherst, said that the pressure of the competition is what surprised him the most. “I felt very prepared for the day, but having the judges right behind me, and watching me, made me feel the pressure, but my lab had me ready to compete and we all did really well.”

Stephen Stansberry, junior from Columbia, took 3rd place in the soft skills event. Osko placed 2nd in the brazing event.

The team, consisting of Jacob Holland, senior from Firelands; Caleb Osko, senior from Amherst; Ivan Breckner, senior from North Ridgeville; Charles Leonard, junior from Midview; Cayden Gainer, senior from Brookside, and Stephen Stansberry, junior from Columbia, had the highest overall scores in the electrical troubleshooting and sheet metal events.

Out of all the schools that attended the competition, Lorain County JVS scored the highest in all categories combined.
