Ohio FFA State Convention Recognizes & Honors Award Winners

Nearly ten thousand students dressed in blue and gold at the 91st Ohio FFA State Convention on May 2 and 3 at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus. This annual event is a time-honored tradition to recognize those students who have transformed the future of agriculture and have earned exemplary awards.

During the two day event, numerous Lorain County JVS students were recognized for their high achievements during this past school year. Four senior students and one junior student were awarded their State FFA Degrees, which is the 2nd highest level that can be achieved. Members receiving this honor were; Savannah Roby, Landscape and Greenhouse Management senior from Wellington; Sydney Collier, Landscape and Greenhouse Management senior from Clearview; Wyatt Collins, Industrial Equipment Mechanics junior from Wellington; William Keller, Landscape and Greenhouse Management senior from Midview; and Thomas Keller, Landscape and Greenhouse Management senior from Midview.

Thomas Keller was honored as a Gold Rated Treasurer and Savannah Roby was honored as a Gold Rated Reporter during the ceremony. The treasurer receives, records and deposits all FFA chapter funds, and the reporter is responsible for keeping a scrapbook that contains all chapter newsletters, published articles and pictures from the school year.

William Keller took 2nd place in the Diversified Horticulture Proficiency. According to the National FFA Organization, Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through supervised agricultural experiences, have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers.

Another highlight of the event was listening to the inspirational words of the keynote speakers. “My biggest takeaway was to always believe in yourself and to follow your dreams,” shared Collier. “There is only one of you and you can’t live someone else’s life, only your own.”
