The LCJVS ExCEL (Exploring Careers
through Education and Learning) Career Camp is a career
exploration program for students in grades 8-10, who attend one of our 13
associate school districts in Lorain County.
*When registering, please select your top two lab choices. If more are
selected, we reserve the right to choose the programs for the
participants. Spaces are limited per program. Should a program be
cancelled due to low enrollment, students will be placed in another lab, and
parents will be notified one week prior to event.
The following programs will be offered:
Auto Technology – Students will learn
basic vehicle inspections, such as checking fluids, changing tires, checking
tire pressure and learning basic car functions while utilizing shop equipment
Cosmetology – Letting creativity
get to your head, with braiding, curling irons, and hair roller techniques in
our cosmetology salon. Students will also get hands-on experience with nail
care and art.
Culinary Arts – Students will learn to prepare gourmet variations of a classic grilled cheese sandwich followed by a taste of the culinary arts with cupcake decorating.
Engineering Design and
– Students will take flight in this program with drone activities, including
obstacle courses. Rubber band launchers will also be constructed and put to the
Industrial Electricity – Students will get illuminated as they take a look at both
electrical theory and basic electrical wiring, having the opportunity to work
with electrical hand tools to complete a wiring project consisting of receptacles,
switches, and lights.
Equipment Mechanics - Get your hands dirty in this career tech
lab. Students will be able to disable and then reassemble small engines and
learning the basics of small engine repair.
and Greenhouse Management – Learn how advancing technology
is used in this agricultural program. Students will fly drones, create seed
bombs, and create their own miniature landscape design in a take home
Machine Technology – Get an introduction to the world of
manufacturing. Students will program a CNC lathe and mill to create their own
dog tag and pencil design to take home. Additional manual machines will also be
Safety – Get fired up about public safety as students explore what is
involved in firefighting and emergency medical services. Students will get
geared up and run elements on a fire truck and ambulance. Local personnel from
area fire departments will be on hand to assist.
Sports, Health &
Fitness Technology –Train like an athlete as you test your physical endurance
in a junior fitness assessment. Learn about agility and endurance, the
importance of warming up and cooling down, and what it takes to train a star
Murder Mystery – Be a detective in
this “Who Done It” thriller. Students will test their critical thinking skills
as they explore numerous career tech labs around campus trying to solve the
crime that was committed.
Learn excel at ExCEL – Learn the basics of
the Excel program by building and programing spreadsheets. Students will find
out the importance of this crucial computer program that is used in many
industries for entering mathematical formulas to track and chart important
