The 92nd Annual FFA National
Convention and Expo was held the last week of October in Indianapolis, Indiana and
eight student members for the Lorain County JVS FFA Chapter, those students
from the Landscape and Greenhouse Management and Industrial Equipment Mechanics
programs, attended this event as a way to celebrate their accomplishments and
find inspiration for their next steps.
Students participated in community service
events, attended general sessions, educational tours, and leadership
workshops.
JVS FFA Chapter members spent their day of
service at Gleaners Food Bank where they worked together to sort and pack
frozen food items to help feed the local Indianapolis community.
“I really enjoyed the community service project,” said Kaitlyn Stevens, Landscape and Greenhouse Management senior from Elyria. “We had fun while being able to help others.”
This is exactly what Beth Berthold, Landscape
and Greenhouse Management Instructor and FFA Advisor, hopes for when she plans
this trip every year.
“Students get to see that FFA has a great impact on students from all over the country,” shared Berthold. “This convention allows the students an opportunity to listen to motivational speakers, give back to a local community and browse possible employment opportunities and colleges.”
Entertainment events were also scheduled for the students to attend. JVS students attended the “World’s Toughest Rodeo”. This event was a highpoint for Stevens. “I enjoyed going to the rodeo, it was amazing! I’ve never experienced anything like that before.”
With more than 69,000 attendees, the FFA National Convention remains one of the world’s largest student events. The Expo covers more than 253,000 square-feet and allows the 400+ exhibiting companies to network and build agriculture awareness for the next generation of leaders, employees, customers and advocates.
