Joshua Morlock, Industrial Equipment Mechanics senior from Columbia, was anxious as he read the letter addressed to him from the University of Northwestern Ohio. The letter came the first of December, and was announcing the recipients of their Senior Fall Scholarships.
Morlock found his name, at the number one spot, in the Agricultural Scholarship category. “I got first place,” Morlock proudly shared. “That means I will be awarded a $20,000 scholarship to UNOH!”
students participated in the Senior Fall Scholarship Testing. Mason Bremke, JVS
Industrial Equipment Mechanics Instructor and graduate of UNOH, was thrilled
for his student for placing in the top spot.
“Being a grad of UNOH, and taking the scholarship test myself ten years ago, I knew that the opportunity was available,” Bremke said. “I sent some students out to take the test because it is always worth a shot, and you never know what could happen.”
After participating in the National FFA Organization National Convention for four days, Morlock turned around early on the morning of the fifth day and drove out to the UNOH campus to sit for the scholarship test. “I had to take a lengthy test on agricultural mechanics and I felt prepared for it,” said Morlock.
Morlock had been looking into the college for a while. “I really like the agricultural mechanics program that is offered at this college, and this is what I’m really into, so I knew this is where I wanted to attend.”
summer, Morlock was an intern for the Lorain County Engineer, doing maintenance
work on many different types of equipment.
Bremke feels that UNOH is going to be a great fit for Morlock. “It is a great university. They cover numerous types and brands of equipment, it’s a blanket education, where you aren’t just learning about John Deere or Case IH, you get knowledge of it all and that will benefit Josh greatly.”
