JVS Seniors Awarded $44,000 in Local Scholarships

A special celebration took place on the evening of May 5 at the Lorain County JVS to recognize and announce this year’s local scholarship recipients. Twenty seven students were awarded $44,000 in scholarship money.  
 
Pam Mitchell, JVS English instructor and Lorain County JVS Educational Foundation member, announced the scholarship recipients at the event. “On behalf of the JVS Educational Foundation, I’d like to congratulate all of you on your accomplishments. Tonight, it is my pleasure to award scholarships to worthy applicants.” 
 
The top two JVS scholarship recipients of the night were Soria Rodriguez, Early Childhood Education senior, and Alex Pruchnicki, Culinary Arts senior, who each received scholarships totaling $4,000. 
 
All local scholarship recipients are listed below by their associate school district:  
 
Amherst 
Veronica JanosikEarly Childhood Education senior, is a recipient of the Robert and Janet McMinn Scholarship in the amount of $1,000Veronica will attend Lorain County Community College to study education. 
 
Maddison Morrow, Early Childhood Education senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $500. Maddison will attend Lorain County Community College to study pre-school education. 
 
Avon 
Allison Hallowell, Teacher Education Exploration senior, is the recipient of the Linda Diedrick Teacher Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Allison will attend Bowling Green in the fall, studying early childhood education. 
 
Alexander PruchnickiCulinary Arts senior, is the recipient of the William R Burton Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 and the Pam Faragher Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,500. Alex will attend the Culinary Institute of Michigan at Baker College. 
 
Brookside 
Rebecca Porter, Precision Machine Technology senioris the recipient of the Julie L. Hogan Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Rebecca will attend Lorain County Community College to study mechanical engineering. 
 
Clearview 
Brooke Rebman, Sports, Health, and Fitness Technology senior is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $500. Brooke will attend Siena Heights University in Michigan to study exercise science. 
 
Columbia 
Samuel Kleinhenz, Precision Machine Technology senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $500. Sam will pursue training in CNC machining at Lorain County Community College. 
 
Elyria 
Kelly Abbey, Early Childhood Education senior, is the recipient of the Robert and Janet McMinn Scholarship in the amount of $500. Kelly will attend Lorain County Community College to study education. 
 
Spencer Gottschling, Industrial Equipment Mechanics senior, is the recipient of the Ryan Woodrum Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Spencer will attend the University of Northwestern Ohio to study agricultural equipment technology. 
 
Michael Wooley, Culinary Arts senior, is the recipient of the Pam Faragher Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 and the William Randal Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Michael will attend the Culinary Institute of Michigan at Baker College. 
 
Firelands 
Emma McCrann, Early Childhood Education senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $500. Emma will attend Lorain County Community College, focusing on early childhood education 
 
Keystone 
Haley Horton, Early Childhood Education senior, is a recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $500. Haley will attend Ashland University to study social work. 
 
Kailee Mull, Industrial Equipment Mechanics senior, is a recipient of Ray’s Auto and Truck Service Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Kailee will attend the University of Northwestern Ohio to study ag and diesel mechanics. 
 
McKayla Ortiz, Allied Health Sciences senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $500. McKayla will attend Lorain County Community College to study nursing. 
 
Midview 
Meghan AblesEarly Childhood Education senior, is the recipient of the Robert and Janet McMinn Scholarship in the amount of $500. Meghan will attend Lorain County Community College to study education. 
 
Emma Hickman, Early Childhood Education senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $500. Emma will attend Lorain County Community College to study social services. 
 
Kali Seddon, Culinary Arts senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $2,500. Kali will attend the Culinary Institute of Michigan, pursuing programs in culinary and business management. 
 
Nicole Von Seggern, Bakery and Pastry Arts senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $3,500. Nicole will attend the Culinary Institute of America. 
 
Autumn White Hupp, Early Childhood Education senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $500. Autumn will attend Lorain County Community College to study behavioral therapy. 
 
North Ridgeville 
Ashley Blum, Allied Health Sciences senior, is the recipient of the J. Edgar Martin Scholarship in the amount of $2,000Ashley will attend Baldwin Wallace University to pursue studies in medicine. 
 
Caden Hill, Engineering Design and Technology senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and the Sandra Dodson Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Caden will attend Cleveland State University to study mechanical engineering. 
 
Andrew Stano, Sports, Health and Fitness Technology senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $3,000. Andrew will attend St. Vincent College in Pennsylvania to pursue integrated sciences. 
 
Oberlin 
Jordan HeraufAllied Health Sciences senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $500. Jordan will study nursing at Lorain County Community College. 
 
Soria Rodriguez, Early Childhood Education senior, is the recipient of the LCJVS PTA/Lorain County Teachers’ Association Scholarship in the amount of $4,000. Soria will attend Kent State University to study middle childhood education. 
 
Wellington 
Haleigh Polen, Early Childhood Education senior, is the recipient of the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $500. Haleigh will attend Lorain County Community College to pursue child life specialties. 
 
Allyson Zvara, Sports, Health and Fitness Technology senior, is the recipient of the James A. Berthold Board of Education Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and the William R. Burton Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Allyson will attend Bluffton University to study biology and pre-med. 
 
Buckeye On-Line School of Success 
Jenna Schifano, Allied Health Sciences senior, is the recipient of the Vitalant Community Blood Services Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 and the Lorain County JVS Tribute Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Jenna will attend Baldwin Wallace, with plans to become a physician assistant.
