Driving the Future of Manufacturing in Lorain CountySince our founding in 1988, the
Lorain County Chamber of Commerce has been committed to supporting our vibrant manufacturing ecosystem. Lorain County has always been a hub for building and innovation, from the early days of shipbuilding on the Black River to today’s modern manufacturing facilities spread across our 34 municipalities. Nearly 10% of our members are manufacturers, ranging from local businesses like
Skylift and
EMC Precision, to national brands like
Riddell and
Dura-Line, to global leaders like
Ford Motor and
BASF.
Powering Growth: Our Role in the Lorain County Manufacturing Ecosystem
At the County Chamber, we understand the critical importance of the talent pipeline for our manufacturers. Alongside our economic and workforce development partners, we work tirelessly to promote manufacturing careers to both transitioning and emerging workforces. The transitioning workforce includes adults seeking career changes, individuals displaced by layoffs, and those reentering the workforce. Many of these individuals already have valuable, transferable skills and just need certifications or on-the-job training to succeed in manufacturing roles.
Equally important is the emerging workforce—students graduating from local high schools, career tech centers, community colleges, and universities. We aim to show them that building a future in Lorain County is a smart choice, offering affordable housing, proximity to Lake Erie, and an array of shopping, dining, and entertainment options.
Innovation in Action: Bridging Schools and Industry
The Chamber is proud to bridge relationships between schools and local businesses, introducing career opportunities to students as early as third grade. For example, Ridge Tool has invested millions in local schools, creating a “Clean Room” at Midview High School for students interested in microelectronics careers. With organizations like the Girl Scouts focusing on STEM education, we are all working in unison to build the future of manufacturing in Lorain County.
Building the Workforce of Tomorrow: Our Commitment to Talent Development
We believe in the power of collaboration to create a strong workforce for Lorain County. By connecting manufacturers with transitioning workers and preparing students for high-demand careers, we help ensure a steady pipeline of skilled talent. Our efforts not only prepare individuals for fulfilling careers but also strengthen the entire manufacturing ecosystem in the region.
Rooted in Community: Progress Through Partnerships
The Lorain County Chamber of Commerce prides itself on “connecting the dots” between local organizations, schools, and elected officials. Our collaborative approach has become a model for other communities, fostering partnerships that drive meaningful progress. We know that by working together, we can accomplish far more than we ever could alone.
