Lorain County JVS Breaks Ground on CDL Training Lot Infrastructure Project

Driving career readiness and workforce innovation forward, LCJVS launches a 10-acre CDL Training Lot.

Building a Stronger Workforce: Lorain County JVS Breaks Ground on CDL Training Lot Infrastructure Project

Lorain County Joint Vocational School (LCJVS) is driving workforce development forward—literally and figuratively—with the launch of its new CDL Training Lot infrastructure project. Designed to support Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center's high-demand Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) proposed training program, the development marks a strategic investment in the region’s talent pipeline and transportation economy.

The project includes construction of a 10-acre CDL training facility, two new parking lots, a stormwater management system, site lighting, electric and manual gate access, and a 2,400-linear-foot water line extension to enhance building services. These improvements aren’t just about paving asphalt—they're about paving the way for opportunity, mobility, and economic growth in Lorain County and beyond.

“This investment is a physical representation of our commitment to career readiness,” said Dr. Glenn Faircloth, Superintendent and CEO of Lorain County JVS. “By expanding our CDL training capabilities, we are helping adult learners gain access to sustainable, high-wage careers—and directly supporting Ohio’s logistics and supply chain infrastructure.”

Fueling Ohio’s Economic Engine

According to JobsOhio and Team NEO, transportation and logistics are essential to Ohio’s competitiveness. With nearly 116,000 jobs in the sector across Northeast Ohio, demand for licensed drivers and logistics professionals remains strong. This project aligns with Ohio’s broader strategy to upskill workers and strengthen the supply chain ecosystem.

Lorain County JVS’s proposed CDL program, that will operate through its Adult Career Center, will provide hands-on training and direct connections to hiring employers. Graduates often secure employment in distribution, waste management, construction, and over-the-road freight—many earning above the county’s median income.

“We are proud to support this next chapter for Lorain County JVS,” said Rex Engle, President of the LCJVS Board of Education. “This facility will allow us to expand enrollment and deliver even more workforce-ready graduates to the industries that need them most.”

More Than a Lot—It’s a Launchpad

The proposed CDL Training Lot is more than an infrastructure project; it’s a strategic workforce development initiative. By offering accessible training on-site, Lorain County JVS is removing transportation and geographic barriers for learners from across the region, especially underserved and rural populations.

“From an economic development lens, this is exactly the kind of talent infrastructure we need,” said Tony Gallo, Executive Director of the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce. “This project empowers local businesses and logistics providers to grow and thrive with a steady pipeline of skilled drivers.”

A Collaborative Vision for Growth

Lorain County Commissioner Jeff Riddell emphasized the significance of public-private partnerships:
“Investments like this demonstrate the power of education and economic development working hand-in-hand. The County fully supports Lorain County JVS’s vision to be a cornerstone of workforce innovation.”

The proposed CDL Training Lot will stand as a new gateway to opportunity—equipping learners with in-demand credentials and powering Northeast Ohio’s next generation of essential workers.

Stay tuned as Lorain County JVS continues to break new ground in workforce development.
