Brian
Iselin, Lorain County JVS Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Instructor, was recently
honored with a PLTW Outstanding Teacher award. Project Lead The Way recognizes PLTW teachers who inspire, engage, and
empower their students by creating transformative learning experiences in their
classrooms through PLTW programs.
It is no surprise to Jerry Pavlik, JVS Deputy Superintendent, that Iselin was selected to receive this award. “From day one, I was impressed with Brian’s dedication, professionalism, educational knowledge, common sense and excellent work ethic,” said Pavlik. “Brian has been a real team player and a vital asset to our PLTW program and commitment. He has consistently provided his students quality lessons and culture that is challenging, inviting, rigorous and relevant.”
The stats from Iselin’s program speak for themselves, with over 96% of students who complete his program have started college for engineering or joined the military in a technical capacity, between the years of 2013 and 2019, his students have been awarded over $1,170,000 in college scholarships, and students can attain 17 college credits in engineering from program completion.
“It is truly a great feeling to be recognized for the work that I am doing in the JVS PLTW Engineering program,” shared Iselin. “Being a Master Teacher for PLTW I have traveled and taught all over the United States and get to see engineering programs all over. I really think ours is up there with the highest quality, and highest achieving programs anywhere. Every student that has ever come back to talk to me has said what a benefit the program was to them when they started college engineering coursework.”

Outstanding Teachers will be recognized at the four 2019-20 PLTW Summits. From
this group of Outstanding Teachers, PLTW will award National Teacher of the
Year to one nominated teacher in each of the following areas: PLTW Launch
Teacher of the Year; PLTW Gateway Teacher of the Year; PLTW Computer Science
Teacher of the Year; PLTW Engineering Teacher of the Year; PLTW Biomedical
Science Teacher of the Year; and Robert and Patricia Kern PLTW Teacher of the
Year.
“I honestly can't even fathom what it would be like to be named one of the teachers of the year,” said Iselin. “There are so many really exceptional educators in the country that I simply feel great for the honor of being named an outstanding educator, and at the same time, a bit humbled to even be in the conversation about the other awards.”
