Lucas Kincaid, Industrial Electricity junior from Keystone, was one of the students who attended and shared why he wanted to be a part of the SkillsUSA organization. “I want to be a leader, and also wanted to take on the challenge. During the trip I learned skills on how to be a good leader, how to talk to people about SkillsUSA and how to get more students involved in the organization.”

During the conference, Veronica Haught, Public Safety junior from Midview, was elected and appointed the office of North Central Regional Vice President; Kincaid as Secretary and John Pando, Industrial Electricity junior from Amherst as Reporter/Parliamentarian.

These three students received silver medals for their presentations at the SkillsUSA Opening and Closing ceremonies.

The students were also awarded the SkillsUSA National Statesman Award which is presented to members who demonstrate SkillsUSA knowledge and civic awareness, along with an understanding of the SkillsUSA Framework and how to articulate their personal experience in career and technical education (CTE).

Kincaid also shared that the week’s trip helped prepare him and his classmates for the regional competition, being held in late February.

The students also travelled to the National Headquarters for SkillsUSA in Leesburg, Virginia for Regional Officer Training.

The trip also included visits to the monuments, the Capitol Building, Arlington Cemetery, and The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for a wreath laying ceremony.
