JVS student members of the National FFA
Organization recently spent a Saturday morning enjoying brunch with local
farmers.
The Brunch with a Farmer event is hosted by Lorain
County Community College and Lorain County farm Bureau and gave the students
the opportunity to meet local farmers, learn about the diversity of the farms
in Lorain County and enjoy some local food as well.
Eye opening is how Cassandra Williams, Landscape and Greenhouse Management junior described the event. “It was very educational and I learned a lot of new things about agriculture. I am from Elyria, and don’t get to see agriculture on a daily basis, so I really enjoyed this event.”
This is the hope for Beth Berthold, JVS FFA Chapter Advisor and Landscape and Greenhouse Management Instructor. “This event gives the students the opportunity to see that they are a small part of the bigger agricultural industry in Lorain County. At this event this year, the students learned that horticulture is the biggest segment of agriculture in Lorain County.”
Students were also able to socialize and
network with many different agricultural commodity groups during the event.
