Three Lorain County JVS students recently attended the annual National FFA Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., joining hundreds of FFA members from across the country. This event provided students with an opportunity to evaluate their skills and interests, develop leadership talents, and create service plans to make a positive impact in their communities.

The attending students were Agricultural Equipment Mechanics senior, Josh Reffer from North Ridgeville, and Landscape and Greenhouse Management seniors, Kirby Herrera from Columbia, and Alea Stewart from Wellington.

During their week-long stay in the nation's capital, the students explored historic landmarks, including the Washington Monument, the U.S. Capitol, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. A highlight of the conference was a civic engagement activity where participants put their newly acquired skills into practice by packaging meals for those in need within the Washington D.C. community.

“This conference allows our students to meet peers from across the country, network, and learn from each other,” said Beth Berthold, Landscape and Greenhouse Management Instructor and FFA Advisor. “Students have the opportunity to enhance their communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.”

This enriching experience not only broadened the students' horizons but also reinforced their commitment to community service and leadership.
