Introducing Airiana Holt - Class of 2025 - Early Childhood Education from Oberlin

At Lorain County JVS, we’re dedicated to nurturing students who are eager to learn and grow in their chosen fields. This month’s Student Spotlight shines on Airiana Holt, a standout Early Childhood Education student who is not only mastering her craft but also making a significant impact in her community.

Meet Airiana Holt
“My name is Airiana Holt, and I’m currently enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program here at LCJVS. I joined Lorain County JVS as a freshman and will graduate with the Class of 2025. My associate school is Oberlin High School.”

Why LCJVS and Early Childhood Education?
"I wanted something different from the traditional high school experience. I realized during middle school that I am a hands-on learner, so I thought being in a hands-on classroom/lab environment would help me learn and understand the material better. When I first came to Lorain County JVS, I had the intention of going into the Cosmetology program, but during my sophomore year, I discovered that I loved teaching and that the Early Childhood Education program would be a good fit for me.”

As sophomores at LCJVS, students have the opportunity to explore various career pathways through hands-on learning experiences, gain specialized skills, and begin to shape their future professions with guidance from expert instructors.

The Impact of LCJVS
Lorain County JVS positively impacts the local economy and region by placing students in local businesses, thereby providing valuable hands-on experience that strengthens the workforce and supports community growth.

“By attending LCJVS, I discovered that I had a passion for taking care of young children. Throughout my time in the Early Childhood Education program, I found that I don’t just enjoy teaching them math and science but teaching them motor skills, and social-emotional skills too. I also work at the preschool located in Kendal at Oberlin and use my skills daily. At Kendal, I do things like help teachers with lesson plans and do intergenerational activities with the senior citizens who live there. One of my intergenerational activities we do weekly is a cooking club where we take a group of kids to the kitchen with the senior citizens to build connections between them. If it weren’t for LCJVS I wouldn’t have been able to work at a daycare center until I graduated high school which has made me very grateful for this opportunity.

Support from Instructors
The Early Childhood Education program has 22 industry-recognized credential opportunities for students, three transcribed in-state transferable credit opportunities, and 9 potential credits through Lorain County Community College.

“Both Mrs. Duffala and Mrs. Lorko have set a strong foundation for my love of education. They not only show their students the highs of teaching but also prepare us for potential lows too. They have taught me things as simple as how to make a lesson plan and guide us with more advanced and tough areas, like what to do if you expect abuse in a home.”

And it’s beneficial because LCJVS teaches you things you need to succeed in the world of work on top of learning your trade you learn how to write a resume, apply for jobs, and do a proper interview.
