Lorain County JVS students in the Culinary Arts and Early Childhood Education programs competed at the Ohio Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) regional competition. Ten students placed high enough in their events and qualified to compete in the State competition.

Hilary Duffala, Lorain County JVS Early Childhood Education instructor, shared how proud she is of her students. “FCCLA competitive events allow students to demonstrate skills relating to their career-tech program. I am extremely proud of how these student teachers used their knowledge of child development, curriculum, and instruction to create projects demonstrating their teaching abilities to a panel of judges. They demonstrated skills such as planning a developmentally appropriate curriculum, assessing students on various skills, and determining how to use the data to drive their instruction.”

Early Childhood Education junior, Katelynn Jackson from Elyria, competed in the Teach and Train event, taking home the gold medal, and scoring a perfect score.

The students advancing to the state competition, their event, and the place they were awarded are listed below by their associate school.
