The second annual Lorain County JVS and SkillsUSA Signing Day event was held on May 4th at the Lorain County JVS. This event is part of a nationwide celebration showcasing graduating high school seniors that have committed to full-time employment in their skilled trade after graduation.

“On National Signing Day, we celebrate our high school seniors for making the decision to pursue a career in the skilled trades,” said JVS Superintendent Dr. Glenn Faircloth. “This past year has been interesting to say the least, but you are resilient, and you adjusted and that is a great thing to have learned how to do.”

In a style like “National Signing Day” events for high school student athletes, forty-seven students from the carpentry, heating and air conditioning, industrial electricity, culinary arts, commercial truck technologyprecision machine technology and welding/fabrication programs were recognized as they signed their “letters of intent” for a job offer.

David A. Zunisdirector of service and applications engineering at Absolute Machine Tools, spoke to the students about the importance of their career tech education and the opportunities that lay ahead. “You were lucky to be students at the JVS, a school committed to your success and to providing a quality education with skills that you will have for the rest of your life. Your certifications are your ticket to a career not just a job.”

“Home builders across the country and here in our area are seeking skilled workers to help them build the American dream,” said Sara Majzun-Garwood, president of the North Coast Building Industry Association. This means, there are ample opportunities for motivated students seeking a rewarding career path. I’m truly excited for you to be able to take this first step forward in your career path.”

Each student was called up to receive their ‘letter of intent’ and signed it with their employer behind them. Students were celebrated among school administrators, teachers, local business partners, family, and friends, as they took the next step in their career paths.
