The JVS Adult Career Center held it’s Adult Diploma Program graduation ceremony on Wednesday, September 2 with thirty-one students receiving their high school diplomas and a career-technical certificate. Watch the highlight video of the ceremony here.

The JVS Adult Career Center completed its third year of providing the Adult Diploma Program, which is an educational initiative made possible through state funding. It offers adults 22 and older an opportunity to earn a high school diploma, receive training, and earn an industrial credential. The students that completed the Adult Diploma Program also received certifications for State Tested Nurse Aide (15), Phlebotomy (13), Manicurist (2) and Precision Machine Technology (1).

“It has always been a passion of mine to help students succeed,” said Diana Gott, JVS Adult Diploma Program coordinator. “I love seeing the pride the students have at graduation. It takes a lot of commitment to come back and show their family and friends that they can do it, despite the barriers involved.”

State Tested Nurse Aide program completer and graduate, Ariane Newell, said that coming to the JVS changed her life. “They gave me an opportunity to learn a skill that is necessary for everyday living. I love the career path that I’ve chosen. I love taking care of people, and the JVS helped me do that. I am now proud to say that I am graduating with my high school diploma and my State Tested Nurse Aide license!

Graduate Lanisha Mosby thanked the JVS for offering the ADP program. “This program gave me my most important dream, getting my high school diploma. It opens doors to better opportunities and higher education that I can now reach.”

According to Gott, the ceremony was planned for June but had to be delayed due to COVID-19. “I was very determined to see this graduation happen some way. We held the ceremony outside, with social distancing in place and I’m thrilled the students had their time to shine!”
