Four JVS students recently participated in a 3-day SkillsUSA Regional Officer Training Institute (ROTI). These students attended as North Central Regional Officers for SkillsUSA Ohio.

Elizabeth Rickard, an industrial electricity junior from North Ridgeville; Rachel Aponte, a cosmetology junior from North Ridgeville; Travis Hunter, a cosmetology junior from Wellington; and Matthew Markutsa, an industrial electricity junior from Avon Lake participated in the training.

During the conference, Lizzie Rickard was elected and appointed as President; Travis Hunter as Vice President, Matt Markutsa as Treasurer and Historian, and Rachel Aponte as Secretary and Reporter/Parliamentarian.

The students were also awarded the SkillsUSA National Statesman Award which is presented to members who demonstrate SkillsUSA knowledge and civic awareness, along with an understanding of the SkillsUSA Framework and how to articulate their personal experience in career and technical education (CTE).

Rickard shared why she wanted to be a part of the SkillsUSA organization. “I want to be a leader, and also wanted to take on the challenge.
