Industrial electricity students talk with electrial foreman on site at the new Oberlin Elementary school
Students in the industrial electricity and heating and air conditioning programs recently toured Oberlin’s new elementary school and had the opportunity to speak directly with the construction site foremen and learn about the work that is taking place.

Lizzie Rickard, industrial electricity junior, shared that she was fascinated to learn about the electrical ins and outs of the new building. “It was good to see the commercial side of electrical work. I was excited to see the main electrical distribution panel.”

This trip gave these career tech students the chance to see their chosen career fields in action, ask questions about the large scale project and learn about their future careers.

Heating and air condition junior, Austin Wade, said he was thrilled with getting to see the unfinished building. “It is definitely different than the residential ones I’ve worked on. It’s so much bigger and has a lot of furnaces. I was shocked by how big things get in school.”

JVS program instructors, Bill Kuhn and David Morgan, were on hand to further explain items to the students and help make the connections to what they were seeing on site, to the things they are learning in their labs.

Wade said he is thankful for the guidance of his HVAC instructor, David Morgan. “He explained a lot and didn’t leave anything out. It was good to learn new things.”
