Lorain County JVS recently hosted U.S. Congressman Bob Latta, who represents Ohio’s 5th District, which includes Lorain County. During his visit, Latta got a firsthand look at the exciting things happening at LCJVS.

He toured five different career tech labs and had the chance to chat with both students and instructors about their work. The tour kicked off in a 9th-grade lab where students were busy making their pizzas from scratch. From there, Latta headed to the Industrial Electricity lab, where junior student Emanual Luciano showed him around and spoke about his career path in the industrial electricity industry.

Next up was the Commercial Truck Technology lab, where senior student Maddie Sagar demonstrated her work on a diesel truck engine. Latta also got a glimpse of the Welding and Fabrication lab, where junior student Connor Sheppard showcased a robot welder he had programmed.

The tour wrapped up with a visit to the Allied Health Sciences lab, where Latta talked with three students preparing for careers in healthcare. Reflecting on the experience, Latta said, “I feel exceptionally fantastic. The students want to be here, and they want to learn, but they’re also learning skillsets that are going to take them out of here.”

He was particularly impressed by the students’ abilities and maturity. “It’s amazing to see ninth and tenth graders doing unbelievable things at such an early age,” he remarked.

Latta expressed his admiration for the diverse skills students are learning across all areas of study. These visits, he added, help him better understand the innovative work being done in his district to prepare the next generation for success.
