The 2023-24 Lorain County JVS school year kicked off with record enrollment for the district for the second consecutive year with just over 1,700 students starting the school year.

Dr. Glenn Faircloth, Lorain County JVS superintendent welcomed the students back to school. “We are excited that the students are here with us, and we want them to take advantage of all the things Lorain County JVS has to offer.”

Along with offering two-year career tech programs, Lorain County JVS has eight 9th-grade and eight 10th-grade programs for its students. As freshmen, students are placed in a structured lab setting and use different types of equipment, work on unique projects, and career modules, learn appropriate safety procedures, and obtain a variety of skills that will help them focus on a successful career choice. Sophomore students rotate through different career tech labs to help them gain knowledge for acceptance into one of the two-year career tech programs during their junior year.

Kirby Herrera, a junior Landscape and Greenhouse Management student from Columbia came to Lorain County JVS as a freshman because of the options that are available. “I knew with everything that is here at LCJVS, I would be able to pick a field that I really do enjoy. And I did. I found that here in Landscape and Greenhouse Management.”

Herrera shared that she enjoys the leadership roles she is assigned to at school and the responsibilities that go along with them. “I appreciate being called a leader and feeling that I can excel with a team and do a good job. I’m looking forward to the sales that the greenhouse has every year and helping to make them successful events.” 

“Lorain County JVS offers amazing opportunities for students across the county,” said Tina Pelto, high school principal. “Our programs give the students skills they can use to build a life upon. We are excited for this school year and the successes our students will have.”
