The fourth-annual Lorain County JVS Signing Day event was held on May 9 with high school seniors being celebrated for committing to full-time employment or an apprenticeship in their skilled trade after graduation.?
In a style?like?“National Signing Day” events for high school student-athletes,?the career tech students were recognized as they signed their “letters of intent” for a job offer.
“Career-technical education provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue successful careers in all kinds of fields,” shared Megan Champagne, Lorain County JVS associate principal. “Today we celebrate our students who have chosen to pursue a career through CTE programming. They have dedicated countless hours to learning the necessary skills and learning real-world experience to become successful professionals.”
Each student was called up to receive their ‘letter of intent’ and signed it with their employer behind them.?Students were celebrated among school administrators, teachers, local business partners,?family,?and friends, as they?took?the next step in their career paths.??
Paul Popp, a Heating and Air Conditioning senior from Midview, signed a full-time commitment with Gene's Refrigeration and is excited to get into the weekly routine of working with the company full-time. “I started working at Gene’s Refrigeration as an intern the summer between my junior and senior year of high school. When I began my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to continue working with them through early job placement.”
As part of the Signing Day celebration, Gene’s Refrigeration gave Popp a Veto Pro Pac tool bag and a branded cooler, a hat, and two shirts. “I wasn’t expecting that,” Popp said. “This is all pretty cool.”
To end the celebration, Lorain County JVS Superintendent, Dr. Glenn Faircloth, shared these words, “We thank our business partners for your continued support. Lorain County JVS belongs to this county. Congratulations to all our students.”
