Grant Information

The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) has awarded funds to Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center to provide need-based financial aid for Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center students who are enrolled in short-term training programs.  These last-dollar grants are for programs that can be completed in less than one academic year (or fewer than 900 clock hours) and culminate in the student earning an industry-recognized credential, license, or a Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center certificate of completion. Grants may only be used to cover direct program costs, including tuition and fees, books, supplies, and tools, and other direct educational costs.  Grant funds will be applied directly to the student’s account.

Eligibility:  Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center students who are enrolled in: CNC Operations & CAD/CAM Programming, Dental Assisting/Radiography, Emergency Medical Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, State Tested Nurse Aide and Welding/Fabrication until all funds have been exhausted.

Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis based on student’s needs and while funding is available. Submitting an application does not guarantee you will receive a grant.  Eligibility determinations are the sole discretion of Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center; all award decisions are final.

The student must also meet and agree to the following requirements:

  1. The student must complete and submit the 2024/2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  2. Provide personal statement of financial need and/or why seeking the grant.
  3. The student is an Ohio resident with a current state issued ID.
  4. Student must be registered for selective service, if applicable.
  5. The grant is considered a “last-dollar grant” and may be applied to the student’s account only after other funding sources such as internal/external scholarships, or other grants have been applied to the cost of the program.
  6. The student understands that the Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center training program has an attendance requirement and a passing grade requirement.  Failure to maintain the attendance rate or the minimum grades throughout the program could result in a loss of grant support and the student will be financially responsible for the cost of the program.
  7. The student must commit the necessary time and dedication to the program to successfully complete the program.  The student must comply with the student code of conduct as stated in the Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center Student Handbook. Students who withdraw or fail to attend class may be financially responsible for the cost of the program.
  8. The student understands that there may be pre-requisites for program enrollment and registration must be completed by the start date of the program.
  9. I agree to promptly provide information about employment for 12 months following completion of the certificate program.  Information to include employer, job title and wage.
