The 2019 JVS Senior Recognition Ceremony was held at the Lorain Palace Theater on Friday, May 17th, with 411 students receiving career-technical certificates in their respective fields. More than $850,000 in scholarships was awarded to JVS graduating seniors. Click HERE to view the full video of the ceremony.
Students were awarded $47,000 in local scholarships from the JVS Educational Foundation, JVS Teachers’ Association, JVS PTA, JVS Board of Education, and Vitalant. JVS students also received thousands of dollars in scholarships for their performance at career-technical skill events, and earned more than $803,000 from outside organizations, colleges, and technical schools.
The top JVS scholarship recipient was Allied Health Sciences student
Jacob Mansell (North Ridgeville), who received the William R. Burton
Scholarship in the amount of $8,500. Mansell plans to study neuroscience
and chemistry at Baldwin Wallace University.
“Students, you are living proof that hard work does pay off,” said JVS Superintendent Dr. Glenn Faircloth. “You are uniquely positioned to impact the world today. You have earned college credits, industry credentials and have worked closely with our business partners. As you leave here today, you are equipped with an educational experience imbedded with a rigorous curriculum, with a technical content focus and work based learning opportunities for experience. Because of your hard work, and the lessons you have learned, each of you will be major contributors to our communities.”
Landscape and Greenhouse Management student, Sydney Collier (Clearivew) was the student speaker and shared heartfelt remarks about her time at JVS. “If you are anything like me, you never anticipated the impact this school would make on your life, especially in such a short amount of time,” said Collier. “The JVS has helped me formulate a plan for my future and showed me that in order to be successful, we have to be willing to grow. The JVS has built my resume, if I’m being completely honest and I’m forever grateful I made the choice to attend this school. ”
During the ceremony, 11 students recognized for enlisting in the US Armed Forces, 15 students were acknowledged for being members of the National Technical Honor Society and 31 students were honored as the “Outstanding Senior” in their program. Additionally, 19 students were awarded Board Proclamations for participating at the national level in career-technical skill events.
At the close of the ceremony, JVS Principal Jill Petitti shared these closing remarks. “Seniors, you have truly exceeded my expectations. You are all now part of an exceptional group, you are now JVS alum. Congratulations to the class of 2019.”

Amherst
Jillian Wood is a recipient of
the William R. Burton Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $5,000.
Jillian is in the Sports, Health and Fitness Technology Program and will
attend Baldwin Wallace University to study physical therapy.
Brookside
Mackenzie Glass is a recipient
of the Julie L. Hogan Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Mackenzie in
in the Early Childhood Education Program and will attend LCCC to study
education.
Victoria Nelson is a recipient of the Vitalant Scholarship
in the amount of $500. Victoria is in the Allied Health Sciences Program
and will be attending LCCC to study nursing.
Clearview
Sydney Collier is a recipient
of the Janet Lowther McMinn and Robert McMinn Scholarship in the amount
of $2,000 and the Linda Diedrick Teacher Memorial Scholarship in the
amount of $2,000. Sydney is in the Landscape and Greenhouse Management
Program and will attend Ohio University to study wildlife and
conservation biology.
Elyria
Desirae Henline is a recipient of the Lorain County JVS PTA and Lorain County JVS Teachers’ Association Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Desirae in the Allied Health Sciences Program and will attend LCCC to study nursing.
Lijanna Marcano is a recipient of the Vitalant Scholarship
in the amount of $1,000. Lijanna is in the Allied Health Sciences
Program and will attend LCCC to study nursing.
Firelandsz
Brianna Whitmore is a recipient of the Lorain County JVS PTA and Lorain County JVS Teachers’ Association Scholarship in the amount of $3,000. Brianna is in the Digital Media Arts Program and will attend Ashland University to study film.
Keystone
Summer Butler is a recipient of
the Vitalant Scholarship in the amount of $500. Summer is in the Public
Safety Program and will be attending LCCC to study nursing.
Alexis Kaspar is a recipient of the James A. Berthold Board
Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 and the JVS Tribute Scholarship in
the amount of $2,000. Alexis is in the Allied Health Sciences Program
and will be attending Hiram College to study nursing.
Midview
Thomas Keller is a recipient of
the J. Edgar Martin Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 and the William
R. Randall Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Thomas is in
the Landscape and Greenhouse Management Program and will attend Ohio
State University Agricultural Technical Institute to study landscape
horticulture.
Ronnie Kisner is a recipient of the Pam Faragher Culinary
Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Ronnie is in the Culinary Arts
Program and will attend LCCC to study culinary arts.
Olivia Molnar is a recipient of the Vitalant Scholarship in the amount of $500 and the Lorain County JVS PTA and Lorain County JVS Teachers’ Association Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Olivia is in the Allied Health Sciences Program and will be attending Ohio University to study nursing.
Kristian Savel is a recipient of the Pam Faragher Culinary
Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and the Sandra C. Dodson Memorial
Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Kristian is in the Culinary Arts
Program and will attend LCCC to study culinary arts.
North Ridgeville
Cassie Armstrong is a
recipient of the William R. Burton Memorial Scholarship in the amount of
$5,000. Cassie is in the Allied Health Sciences Program and will attend
Cleveland State University to study nursing.
Nicholas Borlaug is a recipient of the Ryan Woodrum Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and the Ray’s Auto and Truck Service Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Nicholas is in the Industrial Equipment Mechanics Program and will attend the University of Northwestern Ohio to study diesel and ag mechanics.
