Students Compete at District FFA Competition

Josh Morlock works to debug a mini excavator in the District 2 Agricultural and Power Diagnostic Competition

Josh Morlock (Columbia) and Wyatt Collins (Wellington), recently competed in the District 2 Agricultural and Power Diagnostics Career Development Competition. Morlock and Collins are both Lorain County JVS Industrial Equipment Mechanics seniors and members of the JVS FFA Chapter.

According to Mason Bremke, JVS Industrial Equipment Mechanics Instructor and JVS FFA Chapter Advisor, students in teams of two had to troubleshoot two issues in each machine. They had to identify the problems and fix them in less than 20 minutes.

Collins stated that there were four tractors and one mini excavator in the competition. “We were able to debug three out of the five pieces of equipment.”

“The mini excavator proved to be the most difficult,” shared Morlock. “Neither of us had ever worked on one before, but every time we got stuck, we would just take a step back, reset ourselves and try to figure out what we were overlooking.”

Bremke shared a special thank you to the business partners that made this contest happen. “We are so thankful to Born Implement, Krystowski Tractor Sales, Polen Implement and Wellington Implement who donated the equipment to be used in the contest and also assisted with the judging.”

The JVS team placed fourth in the district out of 14 teams.
