Grievance Policy/Procedure

Grievance Policy/Procedure

The Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center encourages students to express their complaints and grievances to allow the school to improve its responsiveness to the students and to allow LCJVS to improve its operations.  It is important, however, for these complaints/grievances to be submitted following an appropriate hierarchy and in a professional and objective manner.

Problems can often be solved the most easily if addressed as close to the source as possible.  Therefore, students are asked to use the following hierarchy when submitting complaints/grievances:
Step 1) Classroom Instructor
Step 2) Adult Career Center Supervisor
Step 3) Adult Career Center Director

Step 1 - The student must obtain a Grievance form from the Adult Career Center Office from the front office staff, complete it and submit it to the instructor within 5 working days of the issue. The classroom instructor will respond verbally and in writing to the student by completing the form within 5 working days and returning the form to the student. If a satisfactory resolution is achieved, no further action is necessary.

Step 2 - If a satisfactory resolution is not achieved, the student may insert the current date in the Step 2 section of the original form and submit it to the Adult Career Center Supervisor, but, no later than 3 working days after receiving the written notification. The supervisor or student services coordinator will reply verbally and in writing to the student within 5 working days after receipt of the Grievance form.

Step 3 - If a satisfactory resolution is still not achieved, the student should insert the current date in the Step 3 section of the form and submit it to the Adult Career Center Director. Once the Adult Career Center Director has received the form he/she will make a decision regarding the grievance within 5 working days of the written notification. The student will also be given the opportunity to meet with the Adult Career Center Director. The decision of the Adult Career Center Director is final.
